Guest Post with Author Calinda B and Giveaway

Today I would like to welcome to RFTC author Calinda B. Calinda is here today to chat about her Wicked Series and why the Pacific Northwest makes the best setting for her series. Before I give the floor over to Calinda, lets get to know a bit about her.

The Fun Part: Calinda B was told early on that she should be a writer. She heard frequent praise for her writing, as well as her sense of humor. Scoffing at such admonitions and praise, she went on to pursue her life of adventure, chock full of the things that make up a well-rounded adventurous life: music (yup, she was a singer in a rock and roll band), dance (even performed hip hop in Russia), rock climbing (ever hung from a rock wall a few stories up? Yikes!), fire walking (taught high-ranking Moscow fire officials how to walk the coals), kayaking, scuba diving (she’s in love with sharks), travel, and falling in love again and again.

The Daily Grind: An award-winning web designer and certified SEO specialist, Calinda B has worked in the Internet industry as a web page designer/developer since the early 1990′s. She has also taught web site design and computer graphics at community colleges in Northern California. In addition to writing, Calinda B creates fine art and music, and enjoys scuba diving, kayaking, and bike riding. Calinda B makes her home in the Pacific Northwest with the love of her life and her two cats. She is currently working on the fourth book in The Wicked Series, tentatively entitled A Wicked Ending.

Why the Pacific Northwest makes the best setting for the Wicked Series

I love living in the Pacific Northwest. It provides the perfect backdrop for an erotic paranormal romantic adventure series – the Wicked Series. Living in an area a short ferry ride away from Seattle, the windows in my house look out over osprey and eagle spotted skies, majestic green trees and one of the only fjords in the continental United States – the Hood Canal. The Olympic Mountains loom along the edges of the water. The huge, arched picture window where I write frames spectacular sunsets, flowers, forests and dynamic skies – one minute cloud-filled, the next wide, blue openness. It’s a place of electric possibilities and food for imaginative wanderings.

The Wicked Series revolves around wilderness adventures. The books speak of passion and love. They include juicy, sexual encounters and wild exchanges. They delve into an imaginary world spanning Earth and beyond. I have explored and mused upon all of these aspects up here in the Northwest.

In younger days, I roamed the gritty urban underground of sexual possibilities. There are smorgasbords of offerings in the city. Seattle will reveal its sexual playgrounds to those who are ready, like a Madame unfurling her long, fur cape to expose her naked breasts. Once those doors open, the initiate is led to roomfuls of debauchery and lustful awakenings, from S&M, to orgies, to sex clubs and strip joints, to swingers, to sacred, sexual rituals and beyond. In those darkly lit encounters, one can learn how far one is willing to go to get off…how to wield a whip or submit to the unknown, eyes wrapped tight in blindfolded anticipation. One can learn of the sacred possibilities of approaching one’s lover as a spiritual offering, one that paves the way to ecstasy. The possibilities are endless. Do you really want to share your partner? Are you emotionally ready to play hard and rough? What will you do when your partner wanders off with another? How will you feel when it is you doing the wandering, leaving your partner to look on with pain filled eyes? How will you feel when a crowd of admirers crouches around you, wanting to give pleasure? The growth and learning in those depraved yet hallowed halls was enormous. These things seep out into the pages of the Wicked Series.

An avid adventurer, I’ve also found my bliss dangling from rock walls, paddling the endless waterways, or immersing myself beneath the sea. High risk activities call for one to be present, mindful and aware. They encourage the heart to open, the mind to clear and the body to be healthy and toned. What better reality to place my characters than the enticing outdoor wilderness of the Pacific Northwest?

And what better places to explore deep and enduring love, as my characters do? Living with the love of my life up here in deeply committed bliss is a blessing each and every day.

From the mundane and slutty, to the sublime and ecstatic, to the breathtaking beauty of the wilderness, the Pacific Northwest is the perfect place to plunk a plethora of paranormal characters. As to their cosmic meanderings, dancing in distant galaxies? Well, I’ve never been there but I’m sure it stretches beyond the clouds I’m looking at, in the far reaches of my wicked, wicked mind.

Chérie’s just a small town girl living life the way she thinks it’s supposed to be. She’s got a great guy, a great job and a whole lot of things that don’t make sense. Like, why can’t she stick up for herself? And why did this mysterious guy walk up behind her on the dance floor, whisper “sexy girl” in her ear, make her body quake with sensation and then disappear? Who is this crazy old woman with eyes like an eagle and braids that blaze with fire who keeps dropping into her world? And where are all these bewilderingly vivid dreams coming from with the mysterious guy as the main attraction? Chérie wants answers. She finds these answers and more as she faces her past, and comes face to face with a future that is more remarkable than she ever dreamed possible.

Cameron Delaney Tyson’s just an ordinary guy, living an ordinary life, trying to sort out his issues along the way — or that’s what he keeps trying to tell himself, that is. He doesn’t believe in the supernatural, thinks dreams are just daily recycling, and lives in the here and now. Meanwhile, a vicious star dreamling from another galaxy is tracking him, he’s trying to prove himself to the woman of his heart and soul and an ex-playmate is stalking him through sex magic and nightmares. What’s an ordinary guy going to do?

When C decides she wants to have an earthly experience, there’s no telling what the consequences will be for the rest of the Galaxy Dancers, especially her beloved consort, K.

This 4150-word humorous, sexy, tongue-in-cheek sci-fi short story is for those who want to dip their feet in the wicked world of the Wicked Series and for the fans of the Wicked Series who have wondered how the Galaxy Dancers came to Earth in the first place. Just blame on on a woman’s curiousity and desire for new experiences.

    1. Oh, you ARE curious, aren't you marybelle? :-) Personally, I think all authors put a little bit of themselves in each of their characters. There may be a bit of me in my characters but I sure wonder how to do some of the things that they can do - like dance through the galaxy in ecstatic communion! Or whip up a meal out of thin air when I am turned on - now THAT would be helpful! I'm working on it!

    1. April,

Cam Tyson is a composite of men I have known, adventured with and loved. Kayden is, well, he's just Kayden. Kai and Manoko are pure fiction - wait, I take that back - Kai was inspired by a very dreamy eyed whale photographer I met in Maui last year! How could I forget that???!!! VERY dreamy eyed man....good thing I've already got a man whom I adore!
