Anatomy of a Bad Boy
I wanted to do something a little different for this blog post and to that end, I dedicated some time to really looking through images of television’s bad boys. I compared several online opinions of which bad boys are the best. Of course, I wanted to be as reliable a source as possible and research always strengthens the argument, right? When I was thinking of which book I wanted to feature for this post, I decided on my own bad boy, Wyatt Daniels. Then I started thinking, what kind of bad boy is he? I decided to categorize the bad boys I was finding and came up with three “types”.
First, we have the Tim Riggins bad boy
The jock or seemingly easy-going-doesn’t-have-a-care boy from the wrong side of town who would be a good guy if opportunities to be bad didn’t keep popping up. He tries to do the right thing, like not kiss his best friend’s girlfriend, but he’s sad and lonely and just a little bit needy, all the while being way too hot. He could have another girl, but he wants the one who is going to dig through the bad boy layers and help him be a better man.
Second, there’s the Damon Salvatore
These bad boys do good when it benefits them and the women in their lives are positive if they just expose these men to a little more goodness, they’ll turn over a new, even sexier leaf. These are the guys that warn the girls, “I’m not the one you want”, which of course, just makes them more interesting. What really gets us with these bad boys is knowing that they used to care; they used to be different but circumstance (and usually heartache) has left them empty. In books and on television, the women who love these bad boys want to show that love isn’t a one-shot deal and a broken heart can beat anew.
Third is the Logan Echolls bad boy
Sorry, did you hear me sigh? Because I love Logan. I’m going to put Wyatt Daniels in the Logan Echolls category just because I want him there. Okay, but also because he kind of fits. These bad boys are damaged. Something or someone has hurt them, but unlike the Damon Salvatore’s of the world, they haven’t shut their emotions off. The emotion and vulnerability all but bleeds through their smoldering gazes. These guys have been beat down in some way and continue to make it through each day because that’s just what you do. Don’t let their unaffected air fool you—they want to be loved. They just don’t believe they deserve it.
The thing that connects these bad boys and, really, any hero in romance, is finding the right match. Somewhere out there is a woman who can tame his wild side and still give him everything he never knew he wanted and definitely didn’t think he’d receive. For Wyatt, in THE BAD BOY NEXT DOOR, that girl is Shay Matthews. For a chance to win an ecopy of this book, tell me which fictional bad boy is your favorite.
The plan was to start over; not fall in love.
Shay Matthews moved to Boston for a fresh start...new apartment, new job, new routine. After too many years being coddled by her overbearing older brothers, Shay’s ready for some freedom and maybe a nice, easygoing guy. She wasn’t expecting to literally run into the scowling, brooding, (and unfairly smoking hot) guy next door.
Fresh off a haunting undercover assignment, detective Wyatt Daniels is jaded about life, relationships, and especially happily-ever-after. But there’s something about the independent and beautiful Shay that makes him want to dig deeper. Or stay away, which is definitely the smarter option of the two.
But the more Shay tries to convince herself that her sweet building manager, Brady, is the guy for her, the more Mr. Completely Wrong-for-Her Wyatt invades her mind and her heart.
