ARC Review: Shadow Falling by Rebecca Zanetti
Picking up right where the previous book "Mercury Striking" left off, we find Vivienne having a hard time recovering from her time in captivity. She is having nightmares, and whenever she wakes up she finds Raze Shadow nearby looking after her. He was the one who essentially saved her, and she struggles to decide whether her feelings are real or if they are only because of his rescue.
She used to be a profiler before Scorpius hit. Scorpius is a bacteria that spread across the US like fire where once infected a person either dies, becomes a serial killer, becomes zombie like wanting to kill and bite people (except they're not dead), or with Vitamin B infections stay mostly normal except with enhanced abilities. Because of the high quantity of serial killers forming from the bacteria, Vivienne is a huge asset. And since she survived Scorpius, her profiling skills have been magnified.
Raze is a man with a hidden agenda, and so he isn't completely trusted by the leader of the sanctuary he and Vivienne currently reside. He struggles with an internal dilemma, because he is being forced to do another person's bidding. He is strong and capable having some past military experience. While he secretly knows he has to basically kidnap Vivienne, he has this need to protect her and he can't help starting to fall for her.
Rebecca Zanetti knows how to make an intense fast paced romance. I again was on the edge of my seat for the entire book. The romantic struggle was well written and it corresponded fluidly with the Scorpius plot. Raze's struggle to do the best thing in a situation with no straightforward right solution was interesting to read. I am excited to read the next in the series!

ARC Review: Mercury Striking by Rebecca Zanetti
Mercury Striking was fast paced from page one, and it had me wanting to know more and more. Gosh it left me with that feeling so bad I want the next one, now! It is set in Los Angeles six months after a bacteria infected the US (maybe the whole world). This bacteria has three possibilities with anyone it infects that survives. 1. You might come out with some enhanced abilities as long as you stay up on vitamin injections. 2. You become a crazy person who just wants to bite people and eat them (zombie like but they're not dead). 3. You become a highly intelligent serial killer.
Lynne Harmony is on the run, and seeks help from a known community leader/soldier, Jax Mercury. She shows him and his scouting team her blue heart (which is a side effect of the only known cure for the bacteria). Everyone wants their hands on her for either her blood to find a cure, to trade her for supplies, or kill her because they think she is carrying a new form of the disease. Jax sees her value and takes her to his base pretty much as a hostage.
Both Jax an Lynne have learned a lot in this new world, and don't share their secrets all at once. Neither can risk the vulnerability or time a romantic relationship comes with. However, they are both almost instantly attracted to one another. It's a terrible situation where love might either be the worst thing imaginable or their only link to their humanity.
There are several intense intimate scenes so take note of that. You won't find fancy restaurants and candle light in this story but the intense environment brings along some strong protective thoughts, feelings, and actions that will make you swoon. I'm excited for the next book, to find out what happens next. This was the first book for me by Rebecca Zanetti and I am very interested now in her other books!

Feature and Giveaway: Mercury Striking by Rebecca Zanetti
With nothing but rumors to lead her, Lynn Harmony has trekked across a nightmare landscape to find one man—a mysterious, damaged legend who protects the weak and leads the strong. He’s more than muscle and firepower—and in post-plague L.A., he’s her only hope. As the one woman who could cure the disease, Lynn is the single most volatile—and vulnerable—creature in this new and ruthless world. But face to face with Jax Mercury…Danger has never looked quite so delicious…
Check out the Scorpius Syndrome series:
Slowly, like prey, she rolled over to face Jax Mercury, bare chested, cascading heat. A jagged tattoo made up of complicated lines and sharp edges wound over his left shoulder. She could make out a 20 in the center, covered and crossed over by lines. A special ops tat with a 44 in it shifted in the muscle on his left arm. A military designation of some type? “You promised,” she whispered.
He opened one brown eye. “I’m not attacking you, am I?”
“Well, no.” She inhaled, trying to slow her heart rate before a panic attack swamped her. She eyed him, tousled and relaxed. His right bicep held a tattoo with sharp lines, a shield, and the word Vanguard written through a heart. A dark lock of hair had fallen over his forehead, and a bristly shadow covered his square jaw, giving him the look of a lazy panther.
Panthers didn’t really get lazy, now did they?
He sighed and reached for the comforter, frowning when she flinched. Sighing, he pulled up the threadbare fabric to her neck, covering her completely.
“I need to know what I’m dealin’ with here, darlin’,” he rumbled, opening both eyes and focusing on her.
She curled her knees up toward her chest, hitting his hip bone on the way. “What do you mean?”
His gaze roamed her face, lingered on her lips, and returned to her eyes. “The world turned shitty-times-ten for women without the ability to fight.”
She blinked. “I know.” Predators always found the weak.
“What really happened when you disappeared from the CDC? Kidnapping or escape?” he asked.
Apparently the questioning would begin in bed. She tried to move back, but the wall stopped her. “I’d rather discuss this later while clothed.”
“That’s unfortunate, because we’re discussing it now.” His tone remained gentle.
She’d have to crawl over him to get to the floor, and no way was she getting in a tussle in bed with him. “I escaped.”
“Three months ago.”
“Yes.” She plucked at a string on the comforter. “The contagion spread, and soon the people in control weren’t the people who should be in control. I ran.”
He nodded. “Right about that time, the news stopped.”
So many people had succumbed to the illness, the world had seemed to stop. “I know.”
“Where have you been for three months?”
She tightened her jaw to keep her lips from trembling.
“Before the Internet crashed, the battles in L.A. were broadcast continually. I saw you fight, and I later read about the group you’ve formed here. Even the worst of the worst know not to come within five miles of inner Los Angeles, or they face the wrath of Jax Mercury.”
He lifted one dark eyebrow. “Those reports were exaggerated.”
“Of course.” She rubbed sleep from her eyes, her heart rate finally slowing. “The remaining doctors at the CDC tried to contain me, but I got loose. I knew I needed to get here, that with your vitamin B stores and fighting troops, maybe I could be safe and help find a cure.” That wasn’t the whole story. But she couldn’t trust him with it yet.
“Did you meet trouble on the way?”
“Of course.” There was always trouble, and she’d seen too much. “But I made it here.”
He touched her cheek. “Did anybody hurt you?”
She frowned. Oh. “No. I traveled with my uncle Bruce, who was a hell of a cop in his day. He helped me to break out of the CDC—the center we created in the nation’s capital the second Scorpius got out of hand.”
“Wasn’t the CDC branch in DC just policy oriented?”
“Yes, but we took over a hospital and started researching there, and once I was better, I worked there. It was supposed to be temporary, but as you know, everything happened so quickly, so we never returned to the main CDC hospital in Atlanta.”
Her uncle Bruce had visited her many times in the hospital, and when it became evident that several of the CDC doctors had been infected and were considering making Lynne a prisoner, he’d come up with a plan to get her out. “He posed as a lab technician to get me out of the facility, and then he had an elaborate scheme that included three stairwells, one secured lab, and finally a row of windows.” She smiled and then faltered. “We’d been on the run for months, and he’d taken great pains to protect me. He died a month ago.” The pain was fresh and almost doubled her over. She’d lost so many family members and friends, as had any survivor. God, it hurt.
“I’m sorry.” Jax ran a knuckle across her chin. “Scorpius?” It’d be easy to just nod and lie. “No. Bruce was killed by one of the groups seeking me. Many people still are hunting me, believing I either started the apocalypse on purpose or I have knowledge about a cure.”
She had knowledge about Myriad but no cure. “After my uncle’s death, I continued my search for you and safety, meeting stragglers on the way and staying away from most encampments. Foraged for food when I could.” Of course they were hunting her now. It was amazing she’d survived, considering she could trip over a smooth floor, she was such a klutz.
Her former lack of grace was the least of her worries. At some point, she’d need to tell Mercury everything, especially if he wouldn’t let her out of the room. But not now, and definitely not while in such a vulnerable position. “I haven’t been attacked, Jax.”
“Good.” His smile seemed almost sinful. “Then you can relax here in our bed and not flinch when I pull up the covers.”
Heat flared through her. Our bed? “Oh, hell no. I’m not sharing a bed with you.”
He glanced at her, at the bed, down at his chest, and then back at her. “I believe you are.”
She shoved him. “Absolutely not.” When he didn’t move or respond, she coughed out air. “Why? Why would you want to share a bed?”
He sighed. “It’s not personal. You’re a danger to people, and some of them might be a danger to you. So you stay with me, under guard, where I can protect everybody.” He pointed to the stacked locks on the door, which she’d failed to study the day before. The door was metal, huge, and obviously not native to the building. “There are locks on both sides, and I have all the keys. One of us could take the couch, but frankly, it sucks.”
What should’ve been the worst come-on she’d ever heard actually sounded like the truth. It was a pretty cage, but a cage nonetheless. She needed freedom. “I want my own place.”
“You’re not safe, and I can’t have guards on you twenty-four
seven. Sometimes it’s just me, and I need sleep. So you sleep when I sleep, and everybody stays safe. Period.” He stretched an arm above his head, showing that amazingly cut chest. “Like I said, I won’t force you. You want the couch? It’s yours.”
She eyed the cold-looking, rather worn pleather. It was a freakin’ luxury compared to sleeping on the hard ground, but even so, now she’d had a taste of a real bed again . . . “A gentleman would give me the bed.”
He scratched the stubble next to his scar. “All the gentlemen are dead, baby. Soldiers and survivors are what we have now.”
She pushed up to one elbow, discreetly eyeing the locks on the door before studying him. “How dangerous is it here for me?”
“Very.” His eyes darkened from bourbon to Guinness. “We have many who haven’t been infected, and you are a carrier.”
“Anybody who survived the fever is a carrier.”
“As you know, there are rumors that you carry a new strain of the disease.”
More lies meant to force her away from other people. “We already discussed that. Either you believe me or you don’t,” she whispered.
His expression didn’t gentle. “There are so many rumors and ghost stories out there; I don’t pay attention to them.”
She swallowed, her throat clogging. “Good. There is no new strain of the bacterial infection. I’m no different from anybody else who’s survived Scorpius.”
“You’re the only one with a blue heart.”
“I know. I was infected with the main strain, and then we used one of the many experiments to save my life, turning my heart blue. We were never able to duplicate the exact concoction again, although since it didn’t cure me, I’m not sure it matters.”
“You’re different. How can it not matter?”
She sighed. “My heart is blue, as are a few veins around it. I have both photosphores and chromatophores in my heart, which without the initial bacterial infection would be impossible. Squids and octopi have the same materials, essentially, and they can turn different colors—usually blue.”
“So you have squid genes?” His brows furrowed, and his gaze pierced her.
She snorted. “Not exactly, but close enough.”

ARC Review: Blind Faith by Rebecca Zanetti
BLIND FAITH is the third book in Ms. Zanetti's Sins Brothers series, and perhaps the best one yet. It's definitely a series that needs to be read in order, so be sure to check out the first two novels before picking this one up since there are several major underlying plot threads that span all the books. BLIND FAITH brings us back to the world of genetically-enhanced super-soldiers and super-secret experimental military facilities that characterize the Sins series and set it apart from the myriad other military-style RS books out there. I'm a trained experimental scientist: I love reading about anything that throws a little science into the mix-- especially in a pseudo-realistic way!
Like its predecessors in the series, BLIND FAITH brings a tautly-paced and action-packed plot to the table, but in a more subtle way that involves the slick and secretive world of high-stakes politics more than guns-and-bombs military action. And, perhaps most intriguing for someone like myself with my scientific background, we get a deeper look into the motivations and operations of the military lab/camp where the Dean brothers were created and shared-- especially into the enigmatic series antagonist, the Commander, and the fascinating-but-batshit-crazy facility shrink, Dr. Madison. Dr. Madison has been a looming spectre throughout the series, not getting much overt page time but playing an instrumental role in the entire operation as the Commander's right hand with her psychological experiments, but in BLIND FAITH we finally get a deeper look at her twisted psyche. The main reason behind that fascinating glimpse? The book's heroine and love interest is none other than Dr. Madison's now-adult daughter Audrey, one-time true love of a teenaged (and now fully grown) hero Nate Dean--- and (initially) nothing but one of Dr. Madison's twisted experiments to see if the supersoldiers could fall in love. Despite the fact that Dr. Madison is one crazy bitch and has never given Audrey one whit of affection, Audrey feels a fascinating sense of daughterly duty and affection for her mother and seeks nothing more than her approval and recognition. Questions had been raised in previous books about the extent of Audrey's involvement with the Commander's operation, and these questions are nicely dealt with and answered in BLIND FAITH.
Hero Nate Dean has that mile-wide protective streak that is such an integral characteristic of literary alphas-- but in this case it's primarily directed at taking care of his brothers. His goal in life has always been to ensure that his brothers get out of anything alive, irrespective of the cost to him. As kids in the Commander's clutches, he was the bridge between eldest-and-reluctant-trainer/hardass Matt and the younger siblings Shane & Jory; as adults, he lives for finding out the truth about Jory's disappearance and ensuring Matt and Shane survive their impending killswitch-induced death and lead happy, free lives with the women of their dreams. Nate doesn't much care if he has to sacrifice himself to ensure that outcome and in fact almost strives for it, which can make his I-don't-deserve-to-be-happy-but-will-do-anything-for-my-brothers attitude either completely knicker-melting or frustrating, depending on your alpha male preference. Personally, I like my heroes with a touch of beta, so Nate's attitude grated on me a bit at times. Audrey is the only woman he's ever loved and hasn't stopped loving despite her supposed betrayal and his attempts to have no heart, so the chemistry is explosive and palpable the second the two lay eyes on each other again. There are a lot of secrets, perceived betrayals, and hurt feelings between them, which makes for an interesting give and take in their relationship and some scorching sexytimes. As always, Ms. Zanetti does a great job writing love scenes that will set your Kindle on fire and are also incredibly emotional-- especially with Nate and Audrey's past history and secrets sitting between them.
BLIND FAITH is a great addition to an already-superb series, with an action-packed plot, a deep look into two psychologically fascinating protagonists, hot sexytimes requiring a fan, and crisp writing coming together to make for a page-turning read. If that's not enough, the tantalizing advances in the mystery of Jory's disappearance add an extra layer intrigue and will have readers impatiently awaiting the next book and the resolution of that mystery.

ARC Review: Sweet Revenge by Rebecca Zanetti
Normally, ‘paranormal’ is the surest way to make me turn tail and run away from a book. Maybe it’s the scientist in me, but I just can’t get into anything involving non-humans. Genetically engineered test tube babies bred and raised as killing machines by a clandestine black ops military unit who happen to have enhanced abilities, however, I can handle. SWEET REVENGE was my first Rebecca Zanetti read, and it definitely will not be my last. It is the second book in her new Sin Brothers series, and while it contains sufficient exposition for readers to follow along and be immersed in the story without having read the previous book (as in my case, though I caught up on FORGOTTEN SINS as soon as I finished this one), the pulse-pounding awesomeness of this series is best experienced in order. SWEET REVENGE is a nonstop, white-knuckle thrill ride with plenty of twists that will keep you guessing and frantically turning the pages, and enough heat to melt your e-reader.
It’s hard to discuss such a fast-paced, action-packed, and curveball-filled plot that picks up where the previous book left off without spoilers, but the gist of it is: five years ago, the four Dean men (Jory, presumed dead; Shane, hero of FORGOTTEN SINS; Nate; and Matt, hero of SWEET REVENGE) escaped from the government-sanctioned secret military facility where they were created, trained, and experimented upon by the Commander and his cadre of crazy scientists (that Dr. Madison is a true piece of work!) and have been tirelessly working black ops missions to bring down the commander ever since. The catch: every soldier in the facility was implanted with a suicide chip that will detonate in three months, and the brothers are in a race against the clock to find a way to neutralize the chip... in addition to having to outmaneuver the commander and his troops and trying to determine whether Jory is truly dead. Their best hope is finding the doctor that implanted those chips, and all leads point to one of three women in the small town of Charmed, Idaho.
SWEET REVENGE is Matt’s story. I really, really liked Matt. As the oldest of the four brothers, he’s always been protective of them and felt responsible for keeping them alive in the hellhole they were raised in. As a kid, he was both sweet to his younger brothers and the hardass he needed to be to train them and ensure their survival, and he bears the burden of guilt of having let Jory down and left him to die alone. Even now, as a finely honed killing machine, he retains some of that sweetness he doesn’t seem to be aware he possesses and that heroine Laney Jacobs brings out in him. I liked how he’s inextricably drawn to her—even against his better judgement—and how she makes him yearn for things he’s not sure he’s even capable of having. He goes all badass alpha-protector around her in a way that is sexy and endearing rather than controlling and off-putting, and the man is HOT. That sexy dirty talk? I think my Kindle may have melted—Ms. Zanetti sure knows how to write a scorching love scene! I also really liked Laney. She’s strong and smart and kickass in an understated way, but she still cherishes the safety and protection of Matt’s arms without being clingy or TSTL. Like Matt, she has secrets and is trying to outrun her past, and the last thing she needs is a romantic entanglement with the sexy stranger that shows up, stabbed and bleeding, at her bar. But she can’t help herself, and when she decides to go after what she wants, poor Matt doesn’t stand a chance. I really enjoyed how she challenges him and how that brings out the edgier, sexier side of him. *fans self*. With their secrets and their issues and their scorching chemistry, Matt and Laney are truly a great couple.
If you love action-packed steamy romantic suspense with sexy alpha heroes, definitely give this series a try—it’s one of my new favourites and has gone on my auto-buy list. The glimpse at Nate’s story at the end of FORGOTTEN SINS has me impatiently waiting for May: it looks to be another excellent read!

ARC Review: Against the Wall by Rebecca Zanetti
Against The Wall is the first book that I have read by Rebecca Zanetti. After reading the blurb, I couldn't wait to get started on this one as it is the first book in her Maverick Montana series. At first glance this book sounds so promissing. Unfortunately as much as I was hoping to like this book, it just didn't happen for me. There were things from the book that I did like, but overall I had quite a few problems with this one.
Sophie goes to Montana with the hopes of swaying the Kooskia tribe to back her golf course project for her uncle's struggling company. She is literally swept off her feet by a sexy cowboy named Jake and the attraction is instant. After a brief introduction they go their seperate ways, but little does she know that she will be seeing him again soon. Jake is a member of the Kooskia tribe and also happens to be their lawyer. As Sophie tries to gain support even though the tribe and Jake oppose her development, she starts receiving threatening notes with the suggestion that she leave town. Sophie refuses to let the notes or anyone dictate to her what she will do with her life.
I kept waiting for this story to really develop, and it just didn't happen. Often times while reading I would go back a page or two to see if I had missed something because the story just seemed to jump around. I'm not one for reading a story where the author has to take you by the hand and lead you through the story as if you are a child, but I do like to at least know how we get from one place to the next. Because of the way the story seems to skip ahead without any kind of connection at certain points, I just felt lost while reading the majority of this story. I really was never able to connect with the characters at all, or see their relationship growing. I just couldn't buy into what the author was selling.
Although Jake and Sophie are hot together and really steamed up the pages, it seemed to me as though that was all there was to them. I never really felt as though they were emotionally invested in each other. I found myself caring more about the secondary characters than the main characters of the story. While Sophie had started off to be an independent woman who wouldn't let anyone run her life, it seemed that she just relinquished control of everything to Jake even though she hadn't known him long. As far as Jake goes, I like a dominating and confident man as much as the next girl, but Jake seemed to be that way one minute and then completely insecure the next minute. I found myself getting annoyed by both Jake and Sophie.
Another problem I had with this book was that there were several things brought up and dropped. There were also things that I felt were left completely unexplained. It just seemed as if this book was filled with inconsistencies and very easily could have been a rough draft needing to still be edited. Even though I didn't care for this book as much as I was hoping, I really did start to get invested in several of the secondary characters. They are the reason that I finished this book. I still plan to read Under the Covers, the second book in this series about Jake's brother Quinn and im hoping that the author takes the characters in that book in a better direction.

Feature and Giveaway: Dark Protectors by Rebecca Zanetti
The Kayrs family leads not only the vampire nation, but also the Realm, which is a coalition of vampires, shifters, and witches. Years ago, an evil vampire race called the Kurjans declared war on the Realm by creating a deadly virus that infects vampire mates. The virus attacks chromosomal pairs and takes mates from immortal to human, and maybe down to death. No cure for the virus has been found for mates, and the vampires, who are male only, know that time is running short.
In addition, the demons declared war on the Realm, going so far as to kidnap the youngest Kayrs brother and torture him for five years. He has been rescued, damaged but still alive. The eldest Kayrs, the king, is out for revenge, no matter the cost.
The prophets of all the races predicted the coming of a young psychic named Janie who is destined to change the world. How, nobody knows. The vampires found her as a young girl, and one of their leaders adopted her and raised her with love and determination. In the final four stories of this series arc, Janie is an adult, and it’s time for that change—if she lives long enough.
In addition, the demons declared war on the Realm, going so far as to kidnap the youngest Kayrs brother and torture him for five years. He has been rescued, damaged but still alive. The eldest Kayrs, the king, is out for revenge, no matter the cost.

Guest Post with Author Rebecca Zanetti and Giveaway
Today I would like to welcome back to RFTC author Rebecca Zanetti. Rebecca is celebrating the recent release of her book Under the Covers and has stopped by to chat. Please give Rebecca a warm welcome.
USA Today Bestselling Author Rebecca Zanetti has worked as an art curator, Senate aide, lawyer, college professor, and a hearing examiner - only to culminate it all in stories about Alpha males and the women who claim them. She writes dark paranormals, romantic suspense, and sexy contemporary romances.
Growing up amid the glorious backdrops and winter wonderlands of the Pacific Northwest has given Rebecca fantastic scenery and adventures to weave into her stories. She resides in the wild north with her husband, children, and extended family who inspire her every day--or at the very least give her plenty of characters to write about.

ARC Review: Consumed by Rebecca Zanetti
This was my first book by Rebecca Zanetti and while I did enjoy it I think I made a mistake trying to jump into this series with book four.I have seen this series around and have had it on my TBR pile for sometime. When I saw this book pop up on NetGalley I just knew I had to give it a try. The premise seemed intriguing and I love the cover, but all of that can get you only so far. Once I got into the heart of the book I found myself feeling a bit overwhelmed and a tad lost. There is just so much going on and so many different characters and stories being thrown at us that at times I had to just stop for a moment to let it all sink in. From the first page to the last, Consumed takes you on a thrill ride and it never slows down. So if you are new to the series, like myself it becomes a bit hard to follow along.
For the last ten years Jordan Pride has been doing everything in his power to keep his people safe from the deadly virus that turns shifters into werewolves. When Jordan himself is infected he knows there is nothing that can be done to reverse his outcome.
Ten years ago Katie Smith was infected with a virus that has rendered her unable to shift into her mountain lion form. As a result she trained and is now part of an elite force that is tasked with taking down werewolves. She is one of the best in her class and she doesn't take anyone's crap. She is ruthless and focused on her mission, to kill all werewolves. All that changes when the only man she's ever loved becomes infected. Now Katie will do everything she can to help Jordan. She refuses to believe there is nothing they can do because she refuses to live without Jordan.
I really enjoyed the relationship between Jordan and Katie. Both have been harboring feelings for the other for a long time and I always enjoy when those types of feelings come to head. Jordan has spent the last ten years trying to forget Katie and the feeling he has for her. She is the only woman he's ever loved and now that he may potentially turn into a werewolf he regrets never making a move. Now more than ever he tries to keep himself in check because it would be wrong to let her get close just to watch him die.
Katie is bound and determined to do anything and everything to save Jordan. She refuses to give up and roll over. She loves him and that's all that matters. Together they will find a cure and they will get their happy ending.
I really enjoyed this story, but as I stated before it was a bit overwhelming at times. There is just so much going on that I found it hard to keep up at times. Don't get me wrong, I still really liked it and I do plan on going back and reading the other books. I love the world the author has created and I loved getting to know all of the characters. I just think that things going on with the war that is occurring it would be better if the reader start from the beginning.
