First off, can you tell us a bit about you?
Sure! I’m Samantha Chase – contemporary romance writer (and reader!). I’m married (25 years!) and have two amazing sons (ages 24 & 16). We live in North Carolina but I was born and raised in New York and even after 21 years in NC, I still have a really strong NY accent.

Did you always want to be a writer?
I did! I discovered my love of writing when I was eight years old, but didn’t think about it as a career – a dream career – until high school. But even then, I didn’t do anything about it. I went to college for marketing and advertising and treated writing as a hobby. But secretly, I always dreamed of being published.

What kind of writer are you? Panser or Plotter?
A little bit of both – but leaning more toward being a Panster. I always have a basic idea of what the story is going to be and what I want to have happen, but once I start writing, the characters really take over. And believe it or not, sometimes I’ve been really surprised by the direction a story goes.

Where do your ideas come from?
Everywhere. TV, movies, other books, news stories…it can really come to me at any time. A couple of weeks ago I was watching HGTV (Property Brothers) and the family that was being featured really inspired me. I may use that idea in a future story.

A la Twitter style, can you describe your book (or series) in 140 characters or less.
OMG! Twitter style always trips me up! Okay, here it goes – He lives by a schedule. She lives in the moment. And neither of their lives will ever be the same.

What are some of your favorite kinds of stories to read?
I am strictly a contemporary romance girl. So if it falls into that category, I’ll read it. I love a good reunion romance or the trope where the heroine in secretly in love with her brother’s best friend, but I hate love triangles. If that’s in there, I tend to stay away.

Do you have a favorite book and if so what is it?
The first romance that really hooked me was “22 Indigo Place” by Sandra Brown. I still have that paperback and pick it up often. I just love it.

What are the scenes that are the hardest for you to write? Why?
Sex scenes! That’s why most of mine are all behind closed doors! I don’t know what it is, but the entire book – writing-wise – will flow until I get the couple to the bedroom and then my fingers just stop. It’s hard to describe accurately what happens and I kind of like leaving more to the readers imagination.

If you could have dinner with any three authors, who would you choose and why?
Bella Andre, Nora Roberts and Sandra Brown. Each of them have created such wonderful stories that have inspired me and encouraged my love of reading. I think it would be amazing to sit down with them and hear where their inspiration comes from or who inspires and encourages them.

Last question, are you working on anything right now?
Lol! I am always working on something! Currently I have two books in progress – one is a novella for Erin Nicholas’ Sapphire Falls Kindle World (which launches in May) and I just started writing Shaughnessy Brothers book five. I’m super excited about both of them!

What is your favorite trope in a book – secret crush? Reunion? Love triangle? Enemies to lovers? Share and tell us why!

The Shaughnessy Brothers are back

He lives by a schedule

Aubrey Burke is on the run from an about-to-be-disastrous mistake when resort owner Hugh Shaughnessy catches her climbing through his office window. Until Aubrey tumbled into his life, Hugh had relied on work and discipline to safeguard a heart damaged by family tragedy. Now his careful world will never be the same.

She lives for the moment

Hugh’s approach to life and love is the opposite of Aubrey’s, but she soon finds herself falling hard for the handsome hotel mogul. There’s a darker reason behind her “live for today” attitude than Hugh could possibly know, but for the first time Aubrey dares to hope this man’s love might make it worth taking a chance on the future.

    1. Missed the "why" part... I like this trope because of the shared history, potential angst/secrecy, etc.

  2. I love the brother's best friend. It's so forbidden, yet fun. Funny thing is, I had a younger brother by 1 year and I never considered any of his friends, ever...but my sister actually married one of them! LOL

  3. I love secret babies and accidental pregnancies. I have no idea why - maybe because when kids are involved it ups the intensity of the story.

  7. I don't have a favorite, I like them all. At the time I'm reading the book, there is always so much intensity about what is going on, I can't help but keep reading to find out what happens.
