RFTC I've Got a Secret Event with Author Ava Claire

Ava Claire is a sucker for Alpha males and happily ever afters. When not putting pen to paper or glued to her Kindle, Ava likes road tripping, watching an unhealthy amount of Netflix, karaoke and vintage fashion.

I'm so thrilled for the opportunity to help celebrate Ramblings from This Chick's anniversary! Thanks to everyone for taking a minute to read my post and for supporting Danielle's fantastic milestone!

Now onto the juicy stuff... ;)

I have a naughty secret :). When I began research my Falling For You Series, a story about a woman who is dragged to a sex club for her sister's bachelorette party, I started with Google. What was an actual sex club like? Then I had the craziest idea....what if I found an honest-to-god sex club and checked it out personally?

Since I live in the Bay Area, I knew there had to be something that I could use as as 'field research' and inspiration for my tale. I found this club in San Francisco called The Power Exchange. And so my journey into the kink scene began...

I can still remember my anxiety level creeping to OMFG that night. When we got closer and I saw a huge, flashing marquis, I knew there was no way I was gonna be discreet walking up in a place lit up like the Las Vegas Strip.

The friend that I brought for moral support practically had to drag *me* through the door. The Red Door Club that I featured in my story--dark, mysterious and a little scary--was definitely inspired by my little field trip. I just wish there had been a billionaire; brooding, sexy af, waiting in the shadows. Waiting to make every naughty fantasy in my head come true.... ;)

Thanks for listening to my secret and good luck in the giveaway!

Penny Robertson just wanted to get through the events leading to her sister's wedding with as little drama as possible. Smile until it hurt, avoid questions about her lack of someone special, then put it all in the rearview.

She wasn't counting on traipsing to The Red Door Club--or meeting the drop-your-panties sexy businessman, Xander Wade. Xander has a proposition for her: if she agrees to pretend she's his girlfriend for a month, he'll go with her to the wedding...and pay her twenty thousand dollars.

It seems like easy money; a business arrangement that benefits them both, but she wasn't counting on falling for him.

Xander Wade works hard and plays even harder. CEO of a cutthroat investment firm, his philosophy on romance is no strings attached.

When his ailing father threatens to boot him from the company if he doesn't settle down, Xander makes a choice to play the game. He'll pretend he's the marrying type for a month, then go back to the jet set life. No complications. No love.

He wasn't betting on Penny. A month seemed like a breeze before her. Now, a month isn't long enough...

  2. Love your secret research story! That would be so interesting, yet terrifying too. What scene did you find most intriguing?

    1. Hi Marcy! The most intriguing scene was definitely this medical/BDSM room. It had a one-way mirror so people could see you, but you couldn't see them.

  3. I think it was awesome that you did thorough research. Did a lot of you saw become part if the story in some way?

    1. Hey there Vanessa! :) I used some of the things I saw to create my 'club'...the lighting, the anonymity, and the slight awkwardness haha (at least when the heroine first arrives and is getting adjusted to her surroundings).

  7. We appreciate the research, but you stopped the story at the door. I was all interested in what happened next. The book looks really good. I love lavender and vanilla. Thanks for the chance.

  10. I wouldn't have had the nerve to go in a place like that so I've got to hand it to you for your courage. I really like the sounds of this story so I've put it on my wish list. Can't wait to read it.

  12. That is very brave of you. I don't even think I would have the courage to even search for a club like that in my area. I'll have to clear all my history if I did.
